Today I’m sharing pictures of our guest bedroom. First of all the fact that we have a guest bedroom is a miracle. We’ve been living in tiny city apartments for the last 10 years, it really is crazy that we have an entire room that is extra!
This room gets the best light in the house. Someday when the kids are a little older we’ll probably make it the master bedroom. When we moved in it had been freshly painted by the previous owner this dark brown color. We left it for about 6 months and then one day I realized I missed having white walls. Other than paint we didn’t do anything to the space. In a lot of ways this room hasn’t been designed as deliberately as some of the other rooms. It is a collection of furniture that didn’t fit anywhere else so it ended up here. The bed was one I bought 5 years ago and the rug used to be in the living room, even the wall of art is made up mostly of pieces I’ve picked up here and there rather than an intentional purchase for this room. The sidetables, bedding, and lighting were all bought just for this room. I’m a big fan of bedside lighting that is attached to the wall. Once at 5 am I accidentally knocked a lamp off my bedside table and broke it. Ever since I always get wall lamps. This is one room that will still probably get tweaked a bit before I feel it’s finally “done.”
It’s been fun to have a space to hosts guests. When we have guests come into town I usually pick up some flowers and leave a carafe of water and a bowl of candy on the sidetable. I also have a little book of things to do in the neighborhood and our favorite spots so that guests can get around while we’re at work. Someone told me once to spend a few nights in your guest room so you can notice the little things that might make your guests more comfortable. We tried that last year and am so glad we did. We realized a light came on late at night that shone right into the room. We had window coverings installed the next weekend.
